P.K. Basu is Managing Director and Chief Economist, Asia (ex-Japan) at Daiwa Capital Markets, based in Singapore. Before joining Daiwa in May 2007, he was Chief Economist at Khazanah Nasional Bhd. (Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund and government holding company),Chief Economist (SE Asia & India) at Credit Suisse First Boston, and was ranked among the top-3 Asian economists in the Asset poll of fixed-income fund managers in 2001 and 2002, and among the top-5 Asian economists in the Asiamoney equity poll in 2001. He previously worked as an Asian regional economist at Wharton Econometrics (in Philadelphia) and UBS Securities (in Singapore).
PK has dual Masters degrees in Government Administration and International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi. He co-authored India as a new Global Leader (London, 2005), has written Op-Ed articles for the International Herald Tribune, Asian Age, The Statesman, The Business Times, and The Edge, and is a regular commentator on the BBC, CNBC, NDTV-Profit and other TV/media outlets.
